Types of physical abuse
Physical abuse is when a person deliberately hurts a child, young person or young adult at risk. Any non-accidental act or behaviour causing injury, trauma, or other physical suffering or bodily harm can also be used to help define physical abuse.
What types of physical abuse are there?
- Misuse of medication
- Inappropriate restraint (locking a child in a room and putting them at risk)
- Being physically heavy handed and not at an appropriate level
What types of physical abuse are there?
- Bruising
- Anger
- Withdrawn
- Inappropriate clothing i.e. hot day and wrapped up
- Bruises (also shaking bruises on shoulders and arms)
- Broken bones
- Cuts
- Burns
- Fatigue (if someone is scared of sleeping)
